Nothing Exceeds Like Excess
Iran: Decency and Humanity in the face of Oppression

This video is the perfect example of why we need to support the protesters in every way possible.

A group of riot police have been cornered by an angry mob of protesters. Other protesters step in front to protect the police, saying "We are all Iranians."

That sort of decency and courage deserves our support, our compassion, and our attention.

Here's another example from a different day. This, my friends, is what it means to be human.

I watched the evening news last night, and when it wasn't about MJ (::sigh::), the anchor said that demonstrations have pretty much stopped because it's too dangerous. They showed a house that had been ransacked (and it looked familiar from last week or something) saying it was the result of people yelling Allahu Akbar on the roof at night. And then they showed the balloons being released and called it a "token demonstration." I knew people are getting shot on their roofs, but I don't know about the other. Do you know whether the movement is evaporating or going underground. (I think the latter is more likely.)

This is from today:

They're still going strong. We're getting less news out of there because it's no longer safe to have a cell phone with you for pix or videos, and they've been arresting so many people that folks are getting really leery of using computers...some of them have been tracked down that way.

Remember that there's a cycle for this sort of thing in Iran...day 40 from Neda's death is when things will get really damned interesting.

In the meantime, they're out there, just in smaller numbers. Many are waiting. Many are working through Rafsanjani, Mousavi, and others to increase the split in the government and bring more bigwigs over to their side. It seems to be working.

I'm glad they're still active. I worry about them, but I'm glad.

Apparently there are several "legal" rallies going on there today(well, last night our time). They got smart and coincided their gathering with the official mourning day for a revolutionary who died in 79. No one can stop them, since that would be an obvious crackdown of pious people celebrating a national religious observation.

Did you hear that the Iranian gov't arrested 8 British embassy workers last night? I'm curious to see how that will play out...

I'm really disgusted now by how the mainstream media is handling all of this. Four days ago, I wrote about injured protesters being dragged from hospitals and arrested. In posting, I was about four hours behind Fark.com getting that news out.

Right now, CNN is reporting the same thing...as breaking news. They've been a minimum of 12 hours behind the internet in their reporting, which is really unconscionable, but four days? Really? And they keep telling us how they're the number one in trust, the number one in reporting, America's source for news.

They should be deeply, deeply ashamed.

This, my friends, is what it means to be human.

Amen, sister!

I'm sorry I haven't been commenting much lately, but I've been reading, and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
