Nothing Exceeds Like Excess
Real, honest hope for a complete change of government.

Holy Shit! This is BIG NEWS, my friends.

Many of you have stated that you are not interested in Iran, since the result will be just more of the same. Here's a little something to illustrate that it's not.

Ayatollah Amoli today called for a separation of Mosque and State, declaring that there is a problem when a single person can enact, execute and judge the laws, an oblique reference to Khamenei and the position of Supreme Leader. Ayatollah Rafsanjani publicly broke ranks with Khamenei for the first time, declaring that the complaints of the protesters should be examined thoroughly and fairly. Former President Rafsanjani publicly backed Mousavi's campaign, and has been very critical of Ahmadinejad, notably for his belligerent attitude toward the West.

O__o

Ok, and now I'm worried for those Ayatollahs.

If they kill or torture their own religious leaders, they lose all validity in the Islamic world. Of course, that's not to say they won't do it...

Sometimes I wonder if Khameni and Ahmadouchebag are secretly working for the protesters...each new outrage turns more and more people against the gov't.

That is good news. Very good news, though in not in every sense. Thanks for sharing!
29th-Jun-2009 04:00 am (UTC)
Sure thing. I know a lot of people are getting all butthurt and complaining about my posts, but I think it's important to get the word out.

I wonder how many friends I'll have left after all of this...
29th-Jun-2009 04:06 am (UTC)
...really? Tbh, I don't understand why what someone posts in their own journal should piss other people off.
29th-Jun-2009 04:33 am (UTC)
I think they resent me for trying to make them care. *shrugs*
Not sure if that's the answer or not, but for the two "Iran is not important" comments I've gotten in posts, I've received four private messages or emails asking me to stop trying to make them feel guilty.

People I loved and respected...now? The respect is at the very least diminished, and I'm questioning whether I want people in my life who are so lacking in universal compassion and moral responsibility.

Others have politely disagreed with my take on things, and that I have no problem with. If they have educated themselves and drawn different conclusions, I'm okay with it. It's the people who refuse to care enough even to learn the facts...that's an entirely different story.

Am I *people* or *others, love?
29th-Jun-2009 06:02 pm (UTC)
Well, you're reading this, so you're not ignorant of the facts. If you still disagree with the importance, that's between you...and you. Not my business.

That puts you in the *others* category. We agree to disagree. You haven't asked me to stop posting, take down my posts, "get over it", or used the term "terrorist towelheads", so we're cool. At least, I am. I hope you still love me after all this.

And happy birthday, my dear. I'm sorry I forgot to email you yesterday. I was very busy, but that's no excuse to forget something so important. Forgive?

Are you freaking serious? I can understand being a bit pissy about being guilt-tripped into something. For my personality-type, I have an unfortunate knee-jerk reaction to dig my heels in about issues when someone tries to push me into it.

But to tell someone to take down your posts or stop posting about something you obviously feel passionate about? Wtf! It's your own personal journal, you can post whatever you fucking please. Nobody is forcing them to read!

I really don't understand that mentality at all.
30th-Jun-2009 04:07 am (UTC)
They want me to set up a filter and lock the posts so they don't have to even see them by accident. 0_o

The whole point is to get the word out...my entire journal has always been locked. These posts aren't. If I filter them, then I might as well not write them at all.

And these are people who've been on my flist for years. It...boggles me. I wish they'd just defriend me and be done with it, rather than the passive aggressive censorship bullshit.

(If you're reading this...you know who you are. Just defriend me, okay? I guess I never really knew you, or you never knew me. Either way, let's just go our separate ways.)

I wasn't home anyway, but thank you for the thought.

Don't think I don't love you because we think differently about things. I know how to skip by a post if I feel the need.

Wow. That is significant. I've been worried about the media meme that it's all coming to nothing, the protesters are losing heart, yadda-yadda. This news directly contradicts that. When the Ayatollahs start breaking ranks, you know it's not anything like over.
29th-Jun-2009 04:04 am (UTC)
It's kind of interesting...CNN has been a minimum of twelve hours behind the information we're gathering from the internet and from the people on the ground.

For example: four days ago I posted about protesters being arrested from the hospitals and being denied treatment. Earlier today, CNN reported that as breaking news.

Just as the Iranian government has dug their own graves by ignoring the importance of technology, so has the mainstream media made themselves obsolete.

It's been a very interesting couple of weeks, with no end in sight. Our world has been changed in some very significant ways, and it will take years for all the repercussions to make themselves known.

May you live in interesting times, indeed.

Wow, this is pretty wild!
29th-Jun-2009 04:04 am (UTC)
Yep. Don't count the good guys out yet. Magnificent, courageous kids over there, gods love 'em.
29th-Jun-2009 10:55 am (UTC)
Whoa.
29th-Jun-2009 06:06 pm (UTC)
Hell yeah. Did you see what Khameni et al said today. Yes, there were irregularities in the election, such as 140% of the population voting but the several million extra votes had no effect on what was a fair election.

Right. And I'm glad they're sticking to their story...they have shown themselves to be liars and frauds and that their whole political system is a sham. And more and more people are taking notice. They're actually recruiting for the revolution...
29th-Jun-2009 03:49 pm (UTC)
Most excellent. You gotta love Amoli, whoever he is.
29th-Jun-2009 06:08 pm (UTC)
The Iranian people as a whole have demonstrated so damned much courage and compassion and decency...I want to be like them when I grow up.

I really hope this all resolves into a new system of freedom for Iran. I'd really like to go there some day and and meet these people in person.
29th-Jun-2009 10:30 pm (UTC)
very cool.

i've been quiet on the issue, but that doesn't mean i'm not thinkin on it.

I know this is an old(er) post, but I'm just getting caught up on my f'list...

For the record, I have had a heightened interest in Iran of late. I think reading Persepolis is what set it off...through that, I learned a bit about its recent history, which prompted me to do more digging. So I, for one, have been following the news with interest, and appreciate these posts of yours.

Like I said, just for the record.

Thank you, love.
If you need links to analysis of the Iran situation, synopses of recent news, and/or reliable sources on twitter and elsewhere, let me know and I'll hook you up.

I'm trying to keep my posts up-to-date, but there's a ton of info out there and it's hard to stay on top of it.

Here's the original story in Farsi:

Here are two links to sites that have the pertinent part translated into English:

http://valkayec.wordpress.com/tag/iranian-elections/

http://niacblog.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/iran-updates-june-28/

I'll see if I can find the full translation, somewhere...it's getting harder to find the nuggets in the reams of dross. ;)
