The Iranian government has started arresting the relatives of the opposition leaders in an attempt to intimidate Mousavi et al into accepting the result of the fraudulent election. It ain't working.

Iranian police say that 20 protesters were killed last month. Human rights groups put the number in the hundreds.

One week from today, July 30, marks the 40th day since the murders of Neda and the other protesters. We'll see then exactly how stupid the current Iranian government is...

During the 79 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the mourning cycle was the catalyst that brought down the Shah. The current government is comprised of the successful revolutionaries of that conflict. They know full well that the further murder of protesters on July 30th could very well spark their own downfall.

And yet. They seem not to have learned from the mistakes of their predecessers. I predict more deaths on the 30th amidst brutal crackdowns. The outrage that will trigger will end only with the removal of Khameni and Ahmedinejad and a complete reform of the governing system.

The people want democracy. They want freedom. The women want equality. The struggle will be brutal and many will die, but I believe in the end the people will win.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Aren't they trying to suppress the official mourning cycle? That poor girl that was shot and was all over Youtube wasn't allowed an Islamic funeral for that reason, was she?

Yeah...the government buried her and didn't tell her family til afterwards. When they placed the mourning ribbons etc on their door, they were evicted from their home with only the clothes on their backs.

They're trying to stop the cycle, but it's not working. The more brutal and repressive they are, the more people are determined to fight back.

The call is already going out on facebook and twitter and word of mouth...there will be demonstrations, there will be insane amounts of Basij on the streets. The protesters will be outraged (even more) and the Basij will take action.

What that action will be, and where it will go from there, is still up in the air. The fact that the Basij are hiding in Mosques and then jumping out at people like the boogeyman is, in itself, driving people to the point of violence. I think it's going to get worse...possibly much worse.

Unfortunately, I think we'll be mostly in the dark for a while...the gov't is planning to turn off the internet (or whatever the technical term is) all day on the 30th. They're willing to fuck their economy even further just to stay in power.

It may be a day or more before we can find out what is/will be happening over there. It's a terrifying situation, particularly since I have friends there. If you can spare any thoughts/prayers/good energy, please keep Rashid, Fayah, and Ali in mind.
