Is Thursday the 40-day anniversary? Gosh, it's gone quickly.

(PS Sorry to be a killjoy, but you do know the "finger" one is fake, right? It's an American gesture, though admittedly understood in many countries thanks to US TV etc.)

Thursday is the 40th day since the brouhaha of June 20th. Khameni has already announced that any protests will be met with "extraordinary force".

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Yeah, the picture is probably fake, but the gesture is widely used in Iran and elsewhere. They're big fans of American culture, tv, movies etc.

They widely use the peace sign/v-for-victory, which is emphatically western in origin, as well.

I am repeatedly humbled and astonished by the erudition and maturity of the people I've been talking to in Iran. They make me feel very ignorant at times...

I saw the unedited "finger" pic; she may well have been making some kind of rude gesture at Imadinnerjacket, or she may have just been saying "ah, forget you" or such like. Either way, win.
